Bullies exist even in the animal world.

This evening after everyone ate their dinner, the goats and Elmer headed out for some romping in the pasture.  It was like the goats created their own club and had decided that Elmer was not cool enough to join.  Elmer would prance after the goats, who were clearly running away from him as a group.  He'd stop when he realized he wasn't catching-up, let out his sweet little, "mooooo" and then start running again.

We don't tolerate barnyard bullying, so we joined Elmer in the field for a little play time.

Plan "C" is for COW!!!

Welcome Elmer to Silver Hill Farm!!!

Elmer is two days old today.  More photos to come!

Plan A did not work, on to Plan "C"

Sadly, half of the pig litter did not survive, meaning they cancelled our pig order.  The past three weeks Eric has been on the hunt for two pigs, with no such luck.  We ultimately decided to go with Plan C....
Stay tuned for Silver Hill Farm's newest addition.

A Potato Forest

This is what happens when you grow over 200 pounds of potatoes!  You eat as many potatoes as possible and then the rest sit in brown bags in the basement all winter.  Come spring, you have a beautiful, purple potato forest.  Needless to say, we will be planting WAY less potatoes this year.

Also on a fun note today we met Norbert, as resident barn mouse.  Norbert seemed extra friendly, until we realized he was both blind and deaf!!  He was so happy munching on the grass, with not a worry in the world.  Our only hope is that Norbert doesn't decide to take a walk while Mr. Harvey is out and about.  If we see him again, we'll be sure to get a photo....he's rather odd and cute looking.

We have a slacker among us.

We went out to the coop this evening and as usual, the hens all laid in one nesting box.  Teresa was picking out the pile of eggs and yelled to Eric..."seven eggs today!"  And then...WHAT...eight eggs!?!?!  Does this even count as a real egg???

Sure enough...it's a real egg....just super, duper small.  And I repeat: There is a slacker among us.  Really...was that egg even worth laying today?!?!

The Piglets Were Born

It's official.  A litter of 10 piglets were born, many are black and white spotted we hear.  In another 6-7 weeks two very lucky ladies will become official residents of Silver Hill Farm!  They will enjoy running a muck in the woods and get nightly belly rubs from Eric.  We're excited to share our tasty garden scraps with them as well.  Lucky ducks (or lucky pigs we should say).

Happy 2nd Birthday, Harvey!

For the celebration of his second year of birth, Mr. Harvey got a palace.  Sometimes we wonder if a cardboard box with a hole cut in it would have produced the same result!
