Farm Life is Never Dull

We have now lost 4 of our meat birds with a 5th rehabilitating in the barn.  An animal was digging under the chicken tractor at night.  A few days ago, we had two separate fox sightings, one which was only a road over from the house.  The culprit was named.

However…

This evening, Eric exclaimed that a dog was outside in the yard chasing the chickens.  Teresa ran out the door just as Eric was yelling, “It’s not a dog, it’s a coyote!”  The coyote was running back towards the barn, with none other than our friendly meat bird from last year, Miss Lady, in his mouth!  Teresa (in her slippers) ran like mad, chasing the coyote up the road.  Feeling rather helpless, as she had previously chased a fox years ago, she persisted in her chase, growling at the beast.  Suddenly the coyote dropped Miss Lady mid run, who stood up, ruffled her feathers and started running back down the road.  The coyote disappeared up the neighbor’s driveway.  We couldn’t believe it…Miss Lady was alive and well!

Either Miss Lady was too heavy to carry (after all she is an overgrown meat bird),

OR

Teresa is a bad ass chicken superhero in slippers.

(We like to think it’s the second option)

Long Trail - section #6 (12.1 miles)

When the kids are away, the parents will play (or in our case, finally get another section hike completed).  We had a very wet trail today following all the rain.  The butterflies were out by the dozens though!
