Porcupine in a Tree

We took a walk at Ascutney yesterday evening and made it up to the Quarry where we sat for awhile to enjoy the beautiful view.  All of the sudden we saw movement in one of the trees.  A baby porcupine was climbing higher and higher.  Eventually he reached the very top of the last tree branch (which at this point was sagging a little under his weight).  He proceeded to rip off small branches close to him and hold them like a lollipop stick while eating the leaves off the top.  As we watched we wondered how on earth will he get back down.  As though he read our minds, he proceed to simply back down the tree at an alarmingly fast pace.  So there you have it, porcupine in a tree.

On new fronts, the baby chicks arrived last week!  They enjoyed their first outside adventure yesterday and the dogs continue to be VERY interested in their new little sisters.

They're growing so fast! We also planted out fruit trees last weekend (5 apples, 4 plums, and a peach). I can't wait until we get fruit from them, however I think it'll be a few years before they're big enough. The farm is coming right along...
